Java Island



Currently, Indonesia consists of 34 provinces, five of which have special status or the Special Region Aceh, Jakarta, Papua, West Papua and Yogyakarta. 10 of them are on the island of Sumatra, Java 6, 5 were on the island of Borneo, Sulawesi island 6, 3 were in Nusa Tenggara islands, 2 and 2 in the Maluku islands in Papua.
 Indonesia is divided into 3 regions, namely a Western Indonesia Time (WIB), the Central Indonesian Time (WITA), Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT).
Western Indonesia Time region covers the whole of Sumatra, Java, West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.Central  Indonesia Time region covers an area of ​​Central Sulawesi, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Bali, Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara. While the Eastern Indonesia Region Time covers Maluku, North Maluku and Papua.

Java is the fifth largest island in Indonesia and the order's 13th largest in the world, with an area of ​​13 900 km2. Java is the most densely populated areas of Indonesia as well. Its population has reached 136 million people, representing 60% of the total population of Indonesia.
Much of Indonesian history took place on the island. Formerly Java is the center of some of the Hindu-Buddhist  kingdoms and Islamic sultanates, the Dutch East Indies colonial government and the center of Indonesia's independence movement. The island is great impact on the social, political and economic Indonesia.a 
The island is largely formed from volcanic activity. Rows of volcanoes forming ranks stretching from east to west. The Indonesian archipelago is surrounded by 400 volcanoes 130 of them are active volcanoes scattered throughout the territory. On the island of Java, there are more than 20. The most active volcanoes are Mount Merapi in Central Java and Mount Bromo in East Java .  Behind the volcanic activity that damages in the event of an eruption, long-term effects are very fertile. Java is the most fertile island among the other islands in Indonesia, so it supports the agrarian life of its inhabitants.

The longest river in Java is Bengawan Solo, 600 km, that flows from  Central Java and East Java.
There are 3 main language on the island is the Javanese, Sundanese and Indonesian language as the national language. But the majority of the Java language. Most residents are bilingual, with Indonesian being first or second language.
The origin of the name probably derived from the word  Java-wut (Panicum viride) is a type of rice crop during ancient times numerous in this island. Or Jau which in Sanskrit means Barley. These plants can be made of food, so that made this island famous. In the epic Ramayana clearly mentioned the name Yavadvipa. Such that the commander of Vanara Sugriva sent by Sri Rama to go to Yavadvipa (Java = Java, Dvipa = island) to rescue his wife Dewi Sinta.
