Currently,
Indonesia consists of 34 provinces, five of
which have special status or the Special Region
Aceh, Jakarta, Papua,
West Papua and
Yogyakarta. 10 of them are on the island of Sumatra,
Java 6, 5 were
on the island of Borneo, Sulawesi
island 6, 3 were
in Nusa Tenggara islands,
2 and 2 in the Maluku islands in Papua.
Indonesia is
divided into 3 regions,
namely a Western Indonesia Time (WIB), the Central
Indonesian Time (WITA)
and Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT).
Western Indonesia
Time region covers
the whole of Sumatra, Java, West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan. Indonesia Time
region covers an area of Central Sulawesi,
South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Bali,
Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara. While the Eastern Indonesia Region Time covers Maluku,
North Maluku and Papua.
KALIMANTAN
ISLAND
It is a very large island, the
extent of 743,330 km2, the third largest in the world. Borneo Island is located to the north of the island of Java and west of the island
of Sulawesi. Borneo Island
is divided into 3 regions of the country namely Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Indonesia.
In the past
by the British colonial government
and the Dutch, the island called Borneo. While
the natives there called Kalimantan. Kalimantan broadly covering the entire island of Borneo, narrowly refers
to the territory of Indonesia.
In Kalimantan there are more than 20 ethnic
groups with their respective
dialects mingled with
the tribes of migrants from other
parts of Indonesia such as the
Bugis and Madurese.
On the middle island there are mountain inactive, with
a high below 2000 meters above sea level.
Equator passes through Kalimantan that divides the island of Kalimantan
on northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere.
The rivers in Kalimantan are large and long as the Barito
river, Mahakam river, and Kapuas river. Kapuas
River in West Kalimantan Province is the longest river in Indonesia its reaching
1125 km.
Kalimantan Island
is divided into five provinces, North Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan,
Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan.
