In the past in
a village in Sumatra, there lived a very hard-working young man named Toba.
Every day Toba went fishing in the
river. Usually he always gets a lot of fish. Partly to eat himselves and partly
sold to the market. The proceeds are used to meet everyday needs.
One day as
usual he went to the river fishing. But until late afternoon there has not been
a successful fish on his line. When Toba going home, he saw the hook moves very
strong to and fro with the strong. He was very happy. Because he was sure it
must have been a very big fish. After the fish was exhausted, Toba lifting
pole, that's right now a very large goldfish successful in his line.
Arriving home,
the fish was placed in the kitchen while he cleaned up. What a surprise when he
returned to the kitchen, he was not see the fish again but gold pieces lying on
the spot where the fish was placed.
Toba confusion, then he went into his room. More surprised when he saw a very beautiful woman sitting combing her long hair. When Toba asked, she said that she was a big fish incarnation and gold pieces in the kitchen are it scales.
Finally Toba propose it to be his wife. His proposal was accepted as long as Toba vowed never mention its origins as a fish. When it's done, then their marriage ended. Toba gave his promise.
Over a year later, they were blessed with a son, named Samosir. Samosir is very spoiled by her mother. All desires are always fulfilled. As a result he became a naughty boy and lazy. He always refused when told by his mother.
One day, his mother told Samosir bring food to his father who was looking for fish in the river. His mother forced him, then Samosir went to his father. But in the middle of the way he stopped and ate food provided by her mother for his father's lunch. After being satisfied, he gave the remains to his father. His father was very angry to find his son's behavior. Because he can not hold back his anger again, he beat his son and said, "You little fish!"
Samosir ran home crying. He described what happened to her mother, that he was beaten by his father and his father said that he was young fish. Toba's wife was very angry and sad. Not because her son was beaten but because her husband did not keep his promise to never reveal their origin.
Then he told him to immediately run to the hills and climb a tree as high as the highest he could. After he saw his son managed to reach a safe place, then the wife of Toba ran and threw itself into the river. Soon it turned into a very big fish. Turbulent rivers, the rain pouring down, causing major flooding, water flooded their entire village. Toba realized his mistake. But too late. He is not been able to save himself, he also drowned.
The lake is formed by flood water called Lake Toba. While in the middle of the lake where Samosir ground to save himself, called Samosir Island.
